Ep 20: Pentacles

Ep 20: Pentacles

Jan 12th, 2021.

*We will be posting pix of the cards we talk about on our Instagram page this week.

Today we talk about dirt. Ok Pentacles and their association. ONE of them – is the earth

“They are treating you like dirt” and many other dirt idioms indicating a clear and COMPLICATED bias to the relationship we have with the physical realm.

We will show a lot of the cards

Also – If you haven't been our our Instagram – we are proud supporters of BLM, Social Justice, Fight for the Earth, Queer gals. Our podcast – we hope always reflect those values.

:30 We pull a card and “read” from the book that describes that particular deck.

TRIGGER WARNING

4:26 – 8:15 We address the insurrection and attempted coup that took place on January 6th, 2021. Please stay aware, safe, healthy, and do what you can on the mundane level as well as in your work as a witch to keep you and those most marginalized safe. Ward yourself, others if they are willing, and your property, any protection and or banishment skills you have in your toolbox

We are thinking of you and holding all of our community in power.

8:15 General Babble

9:20 – A Midsummer Nigh't Dream, Into the Unknown and other babble.

13:27: The Library – History of Pentacles

18:57 Head out to the Bonfire

We talk about Pentacles, correlation some specific cards, why we love them,  the ways to interpret from books, to looking at the pictures to listening to yourself to listening to clients. Listening. Creativity… well -take a listen!

Ep 19: Potions

Ep 19: Potions

Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and cauldron bubble!

Oh yeah. We are talking potions today. For our mouth, for our body— what exactly are potions and how do you use them? We talk History ( of course) a couple of tried and true recipes and fun ways we have used them.

We also have some exciting announcements and a favor ( the ask is at the end!).

This is our first show back after some tech issues. Meaning, part of it was recorded before January 6th, 2021, and part was recorded after the terrorist attack by white supremest T supporters. We touch oh so briefly ( maybe 30 seconds) on the fact that we do not support or condone, nor have we ever,  #45, and wish #25 would be invoked ASAP. Check out our Instagram if you want to follow up on a potion to relieve stress and take action on this issue.

Ep 14: Candle Magic, Witches!

Ep 14: Candle Magic, Witches!

As we are halfway through the waning sun cycle – halfway to the Winter Solstice, Yule, Return of the Sun WHERE IS THE LIGHT!? Well – it is a great time for Candle Magic. But seriously Candle Magic is always in season.

Today we talk about our obsession of candles themselves but also some candle magic.

*Disclaimer / Fire Safety!

When burning candles or using any flame PLEASE practice fire safety. Have water or a fire extinguisher or if you are using oil have baking soda, sand or dirt close by you as it will act similar to a kitchen fire.

Ep 12: Wicca vs. Witchcraft

Ep 12: Wicca vs. Witchcraft

Such a complicated issue. Or is it? Well listen and find out!

There are conflicting sources and definitely a whole big bag of opinions… ah opinions – everyone has one. Including us!

Detta started as a Wiccan and is moving toward Irish Witchcraft ( but still loves and uses a lot her Wiccan roots). Corey has done some research on Wicca over the years as she has deepened her life as a witch. We discuss this, share what we love share what we are critical of and as always encourage you to follow your instincts and let any judgements you may trip on – kick that rock out of your way and continue on the path YOU choose.

We would love to hear from you! What do you think? Do you practice Wicca? Do you practice Witchcraft? Do you practice both?

If you liked the show we hope you take the time to give us a review! Thanks for listening!

Wiccan Resources:

Authors:

Scott Cunningham ( anything he wrote )

The Witch's Bible – Janet and Stewart Farrar

Doreen Valiente – The Charge of The Goddess

Drawing Down The Moon – Margaret Adler

78 Degrees of Wisdom: A book of Tarot – Pollock

AND yes – I (Detta) am going here people – she is controversial. Love or Hate or – like me – eh – conflicted- Silver Ravenwolf. I don't agree with all of her research or practices, but some are just fine.

Llewellen Books – the Witches Datebook, The Witches Almanac and so many more.

And most recently I started listening to

The Modern Guide to Witchcraft by Skye Alexander. I'll let you know what I think.

History of Witchcraft Books ( Salem Specific)

Six Women of Salem: The Untold Story of the Accused and Their Accusers in Salem -Roach

The Salem Witch Trials: A Day-by-Day Chronicle of a Community Under Siege

Storm Of Witchcraft – Baker

History of Witchcraft
Malleus Maleficarum – This is a condemnation of Witchcraft but gives you context for what women went through.
The Witch-Hunt in Early Modern Europe – Levack

The Visions of Isobel Gowdie: Magic, Witchcraft and Dark Shamanism in Seventeenth-century Scotland – Wilby

If you can get your hands on any of Máire MacNeill's work. Most is out of print. You can find some information on Jstor.org

Throughout the rest of the season Detta will be providing some books titles over the next couple weeks that are specific to Irish Witchcraft, some history and lore for British, Scottish and Jewish – women and possibly witchcraft.
